summary: "Heinz Felfe was a former SS officer who became one of the most damaging Soviet penetration agents in Western intelligence history. Recruited by the KGB after World War II, he joined the CIA-funded Gehlen Organization in 1951 and rose to become chief of counterintelligence for the organization and its successor the BND - the office responsible for detecting precisely the kind of penetration he represented. Exposed in November 1961 after approximately a decade of service to the KGB, his operations compromised substantial CIA-BND joint programs."
