Bell Boys was an escort agency in Amsterdam. Het Parool carried classified advertisements headed "Bell Boys" in its "Diverse clubs" column from December 24, 1983 ("BELL BOYS. 24 uur escorts") through at least October 28, 1985.1 The journalist Nick Davies wrote in 1998 that Karel Maasdam, known in Amsterdam as "Alex Privee," was the "owner of the Bell Boys escort agency."2 Davies also wrote that an Englishman he interviewed in Amsterdam, who is not named, said a boy who worked as an escort for "Alex Privee's agency, Bell Boys" had mentioned seeing a missing German boy in Lothar Glandorf's clubs in Rotterdam.2

Venues and Belgian connections

Davies placed Maasdam in the Paardenstraat, where he listed three bars, the Festival Bar, the Music Box and the Cupido.2 Willems wrote that Robert Jan Warmerdam, a witness in the Dutch investigations, testified to knowledge of Bell Boys and its connections to Belgian networks, including those around Marc Dutroux, and that the network's client list extended to Belgium, which made it relevant to the Belgian parliamentary inquiry into the Dutroux affair.34

Rolodex Investigation

The Dutch government's summary of the Rolodex Investigation (December 23, 2013) refers to the brothel owner only as "A" and does not name Bell Boys.5 Willems wrote that the investigation's findings and the adequacy of subsequent prosecutions were subjects of political controversy in the Netherlands, with critics alleging that the full client list was not aggressively pursued and that figures with political connections were protected from prosecution.3
