Douglas MacArthur was a highly decorated American five-star general who played a prominent role in World War II and the Korean War. After being relieved of his Korean command by President Harry Truman in 1951, he embarked on a speaking tour, during which he was accompanied by H.L. Hunt and supported by Clint Murchison, Sr..1

MacArthur was the focus of a "MacArthur-for-president" campaign in 1952, organized by H.L. Hunt and Clint Murchison, Sr.. This campaign, though reluctant on MacArthur's part, saw Hunt spending a significant amount of his own money. The campaign eventually dissolved as MacArthur adopted a more strident right-wing rhetoric.1

Connections were forged during this period, with figures like Charles Willoughby being a regular part of the MacArthur-Hunt entourage, likely acquainted with Clint Murchison, Sr.. Research has noted that some of the men who served under General Douglas MacArthur during World War II later became part of the "The Octopus" network.1
