Jody Powell was President Jimmy Carter's press secretary. In October 1977, he publicly announced that "four years of continuing investigation" by the Atomic Energy Commission, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and General Accounting Office had "failed to reveal" a diversion of uranium to Israel from Nuclear Materials and Equipment Corporation.1
