Shahpour Bakhtiar was the last prime minister appointed by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran, serving as a compromise with the opposition. He was a supporter of Mohammed Mossadegh and a member of the National Front.1

After Mohammad Reza Pahlavi departure from Iran in January 1979, Shahpour Bakhtiar proved unable to function effectively. Following Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini arrival in Iran on February 1, 1979, Shahpour Bakhtiar went into hiding ten days later and eventually found exile in Paris, France. He was assassinated in Paris in 1991.1
