Jonathan Kwitny was the author of the book The Crimes of Patriots. In his book, Kwitny reported that Michael Hand reportedly fled Australia under a false identity on June 14, 1980, on a flight to Fiji. He also identified an American code-named "Charlie" as a former member of the United States Army Special Forces and ex-Central Intelligence Agency operative who allegedly helped Hand escape.¹
